As we are entering August, I wanted to reach out to everybody with a proposal for a few puppet projects. In the past, my ideas for projects have suffered from too much procrastination and too little time. This year, I hope that I can change that with a little bit of advanced planning. And, I thought it would be cool if a few of us collaborated on a couple of projects.
What I’ve pictured are two kinds of projects which I will call an Anthology and a Shared Puppet Universe type of story.
The Anthology
With the anthologies, we would select certain topics and then each produce videos that are related to that topic. Then, the videos would be grouped together in a combined presentation. The topics that I’m interested in are:
And, sure, many of these are holidays which are still a few months away but, like I said, I wanted to get a jump on things, and perhaps give everybody a head start. Because, producing a video can be tricky. You have to think of the story, record everything, edit it together, set it to music. . . it takes time, and we all live full, active lives in addition to our passion for puppetry.
The Puppetverse
A second type of project I’ve had in mind will take far more coordination, but I think that it could be fun. We could apply it towards one of the topics in the list above, or pick a separate topic or theme. This idea is that instead of producing separate videos which tell their own, self-contained stories, we would produce videos that tie together.
The setting could be a movie theater, a cruise, a school, or a restaurant, and while the videos would be produced by different people, there would be similar elements which would tie them together. If the setting was a restaurant, then perhaps the name of the restaurant is the same, and each of our puppets are dining there. Or, they are on a train or a cruise, and there are common elements. We might share certain assets like backgrounds or props so that certain things are consistent.
I wanted to share these ideas now so the creative juices can start flowing, and maybe there are other people who have different ideas.
To help get things started, I’ve set up a discord server where puppeteers can join, ask questions, and collaborate on these different projects. Click here to join the server, and then look for a category labeled “Projects,” or feel free to ask questions in the general channel. You can also send a message to the Fuzzy Logic Facebook page
